Richard Everett “Buddy” Ryder, Jr., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 4, 2022 at his home. He was born on April 3, 1938 in Bath County, VA to the late Richard Everette “Dick” Ryder, Sr., and Eunice Wilt Ryder. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William G. “Billy” Ryder.

Buddy loved to fish and hunt with many hunt clubs and was a honorary member of the Skyline Hunt Club and a volunteer fireman for the Ruckersville Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from Comdial after 42 years as an electrician and spent the last 15 years delivering parts for Advance Auto Parts in Ruckersville. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He lived for the simple things in life, family gatherings, watching grandkids play ball, front porch sitting, blue grass music, yard sales and weekend outings with the love of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margie Sheffield Ryder, one daughter, Sandra R. Mawyer and special friend, Alvin Vernon, two sons, Jeffrey S. Ryder and wife, Doris, Benjamin “Tic” E. Ryder and wife, Sabrina, one sister, Priscilla R. Beck, seven grandchildren, Amanda Mawyer, Gwen Morris, Ryland Ryder, Cody Spencer, Jacob Ryder, Adam Ryder and Hunter Ryder and two great-grandchildren, Brea and Jayla.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison. The interment will be in Holly Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
