Jay Zimmer, 62, of Charlottesville, Virginia died on Sunday, July 4, 2021. He was a devoted family man, a professional cattleman, wildlife enthusiast, and photographer. He leaves his loving family, wife Kathleen, their three children Jameson (Miwa), Sean (Kayla), Madeline (Peach), granddaughter Sonia; his supportive family in Ohio, father Robert, his much-loved departed mother Agnes, sisters Elizabeth Roberts (Mike), Mary Jean Henry (Pat), Julie Gross (Dan), and brother Bob Zimmer (Elizabeth); his entire extended family; and last but not least his faithful truck and cattle dog Angela. Jay was the kind of man who always did the right thing, even when no one was looking.
We cannot express how much we appreciate the respect and support that Jay received from the Albemarle Police Department, Search and Rescue teams, including Rob Speiden, the police and Search and Rescue dogs, Dr. Stone and his drone team from UVA and the second drone team, his friend Josh Kirtley and the Watson family, the Peery family, Kent Seaburn, Shelly and Megan, and the countless others who worked relentlessly to bring him back to us.
A memorial service will be held at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison, Virginia on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021 at 6:00 pm and his family will receive friends an hour prior.
