Jean Breeden McDaniel              April 6, 2023

Jean McDaniel, age 90, of Madison, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 6, 2023 after complications from a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).

Jean was born in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Welford Early Breeden and Vergie Edna Jarrell Breeden of Kinderhook, Va. on November 3, 1932. Jean was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Willie and Lelia Jarrell of Fletcher, VA and Hiram and Sarah Ann Breeden of Kinderhook.  During her lifetime, she endured the loss of many cherished family members including her husband, Hollis McDaniel, her brother Randolph Breeden of Madison; her son-in-law, Richard Fillings of Culpeper; her daughter Deborah McDaniel of Kingwood, West Virginia and her brother-in-law, Granville Weakley of Madison.

Jean attended Kinderhook School for her elementary education and graduated from William Monroe High School in Stanardsville in 1949. She was employed by Blue Bell of Madison for 20 years until it closed. Then, she was a faithful employee for Comdial Telecommunications for 24 years, until she retired in 1993. Jean was a life-long resident of Madison County and a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Kinderhook.

Jean is survived by her sister, Betty Weakley of Madison, her daughters Brenda Fillings of Conway, South Carolina, and Donna Strickler (Scott) of Kingwood, West Virginia. She was cherished by her granddaughters Robin Fillings Robinson (Lonnie) of Annapolis, Maryland and Emily Strickler of Morgantown, West Virginia. Her great-grandchildren, A.J. Robinson (Cathi) of Severna Park, Maryland and Alexandra Robinson of Annapolis, Maryland were blessed to grow up with a great-grandmother who always encouraged them to strive for their goals. Last year, Jean welcomed her first great-great granddaughter Carsyn Renay Robinson, who she adored.

Jean was a genuine and quiet soul, who took pride in her family and her home. She truly enjoyed challenging herself daily with crossword puzzles. She is greatly loved and will be missed by all. The celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Preddy’s Funeral Home in Madison at 3:00 pm on April 11, 2023. Reverend Jeff Tucker will be officiating, and the service will be concluded at Sod Mountain Cemetery, where Jean will be laid to rest at the Breeden family farm.
