Marc Leon Fleischmann, beloved husband of Shirley Workman Fleischmann took his final flight on April 4th, 2023. Marc was born on a cold day, January 7th, 1948 in Grand Rapid, Michigan. Son of the late Henry & Barbara Fleischmann. Marc often shared fond memories of his stepmother, Margaret and his grandmother.
Marc’s love of flying lead to him piloting a Beach 18 plane for Air America during the Vietnam War. After surviving being shot down a few times, he in later years worked 25 years at Eastern Airlines as an airplane mechanic. He was currently employed by Gentune.
Before his illness, Marc was renewing his pilot’s license with his friends at Gordonsville Airport, wanting to take one more solo flight in his airplane. Marc’s love of adventure had him racing horses at Charlestown, WVA, sailing Chesapeake Bay, and fishing the Potomac River with his stepson, Jay. With his friend Wallace Rudolph, he had recently acquired an Formula Vee racecar, still hoping to scare himself one more time by traveling over 120 MPH. Over the last couple of years, his employment with the “Burnt Tree Industrial Railway” provided many opportunities for hard work, and hours of enjoyment. The fellowship with his train buddies, and Chris Artale, has enriched his life. Thanks to Chris for his friendship and support. A special thanks to Norm Parker, his road trip buddy to find some projects just too good to be true.
Marc is survived by his wife, Shirley and stepchildren, Jay & Cheryl, Tara, Jason & Nicole. Grandchildren, Jana & James, Cole & Danny, Willow & Waylon. Great grandchildren, Davey, Gracie, and Everett. A special thanks for the wonderful care provided by Intrepid Hospice, and his “DOC”, Tina Rutt. Over the last year, the support from the family and staff at Countryside Assisted Living helped Marc with his journey as he was fighting cancer.
