Harold Hampton Holley of Gordonsville passed away on March 11, 2022. He was born in Albemarle on August 25, 1934 to the late James Lewis and Audrey Payne Holley.
Harold was a veteran of the United States Army where he served oversees in Germany as well as in the States. He was a man who believed that sitting idle was waste of time. He spent most of his career in retail sales working for Firestone, Sears and Roebuck, and J.C. Penney. He also served as a mechanic in different garages through the years both in Virginia and West Virginia. He finally hung up his employee hat at the age of 86 when he retired from Twin State Salon Supplies.
Harold was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed being with friends and family and was always the life of the party. He loved to entertain adults and children alike with his outgoing personality and amazing sense of humor. Children were especially drawn to him because he could make them laugh and smile within minutes of meeting him. Anyone who was around Harold for more than a minute would find themselves filled with laughter because he had a way of knowing exactly what everyone needed to make them smile. Aside from spending time with friends and family his favorite past time was fishing. Living on the Greenbrier river in the mountains of West, Virginia allowed him to spend any time he wasn’t working with a rod and reel in his hand catching dinner to store in the freezer. Along with fishing, Harold loved to garden and he would sow and reap enough food to feed the very Army that he served in.
Harold is preceded in death by two of his sons Jeffrey Scott Holley and Mark Wayne Holley. He is survived by his wife Doris Garrison Holley of Gordonsville, his son Darryl Trent Holley and Amanda of Louisa and his two grandsons, Jacob Hunter and Joshua Trent Holley, both of Louisa. He is also survived by his step children Jeffrey Colvin and wife Susan, David Colvin and wife Wanda and Debi Winston and husband Wayland and step grandchildren, Wayland Winston, Jeffrey Colvin, LeAnne Davis, Brittany Holmberg, Kaitlyn and Sydney Colvin as well as three step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Otis Holley and wife Nan of Staunton, Keith Holley of Charlottesville, and Everett Holley and wife Patsy of Weatherford, TX, and his devoted sister Mary Wills and husband Pete of Gordonsville.
There will be a memorial service at Mechanicsville Baptist Church with Pastor Roy Thomas officiating on Wednesday, March 16 at 11:30 with a lunch immediately following the service.
