“Coach” Eddie Ray Trimm of Madison passed away on July 8, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in his home in Aylor, VA.
Ed was born on Sept. 8, 1941 to the late Emma Hurlie Waldrip Trimm and Thomas Luke Edward Trimm at home in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Ed dedicated his life to working with young people. Upon receiving his Masters of Education from the University of Virginia he taught and coached track/cross country for 30 years at Hammond, TC Williams, and Lake Braddock High Schools. To the many athletes and students he pushed to give their best effort, he will always be thought of as “Coach”--he loved you all so much. He was more than a teacher and coach– to many he was a mentor and father-figure. He taught his athletes 4 things–honesty, appreciation, giving your best effort, and paying it forward. May we honor those ideals all our lives.
Ed bought Camp Varsity summer camp in Madison, VA with his wife Rosalind in 1980. After Rosalind’s death, Coach married Helen Trimm in 1990. The love and hard work they poured into Camp gave thousands of kids the greatest week of their year in Madison County–a week of fun in the outdoors, swimming, riding horses, games, dances, and lots of laughs. Camp friendships and bonds have transcended the years–once you became a Camp Varsity camper, you carried it with you in your heart. To all former campers–you brought so much joy to Coach and Helen.
Ed is survived by his sister Nancy Kay Learned and her sons Perry, Dustin and Evans. He is also survived by his brother Russell’s children, Joshua and Jarett and their children Savannah, Carter, Clay, Charlotte Trimm. Helen and Ed leave behind John Fox and his fiance Holly Newan, Frank Fox and his fiance Uyvonka Jones and their daughter Jailah Channer, and Donna Fox and her husband Brahim Khiraoui.
