Charles Leland Nettles, 81, of Syria, Virginia passed away on the morning of March 26, 2025. Born on the 14 of January 1944, Mr. Nettles, Leland, was the youngest child of Dr. Edwin C. “Doc” Nettles and Louise Robertson Nettles of Wakefield, Virginia. Nettles graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and practiced as a clinical psychologist with Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services where he served as director of the Rappahannock clinic in Little Washington and later at the Orange Clinic in Orange, Virginia. As an avid card-player, he vanquished all family members at gin-rummy and proceeded to parlay those skills into Contract Bridge where he was a double Gold Life Master. Mr. Nettles was also a knowledgeable and enthusiastic antiques collector.
Mr. Nettles is survived by a daughter, Louise “Robyn” Robertson Nettles Christopher of Crozet, VA; a grandson, Benjamin Leland Christopher of New York City; a niece, Kathryn Carter Nettles of Nashville, TN; and Liam, his loyal hound.
Nettles is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Donna Mahoney Nettles, a grandson, Gregory Gerard Rogan; older brother and sister, Edwin Carter Nettles, Jr, of Wakefield, VA and Dr. Elizabeth Jane Nettles, of St. Louis, MO; niece and nephew, Bryar Chappell Nettles, and Edwin Carter Nettles, III, of Wakefield, VA.
