Everette Daniel Weakley April 1, 2025
Everette Daniel Weakley, 96 of Madison, VA, passed away on April 1, 2025 at UVA Haymarket Hospital. He was born on March 9, 1929 to Irvin Daniel Weakley and Mary Pauline Call Weakley. His beloved wife, Rebecca Coates Weakley preceded him in death in 2011 after a wonderful marriage of 57 years. He is survived by his daughters Anne G. Weakley of Madison and Nancy W. Wanner and husband Christopher of Stafford, VA.; grandchildren Jackson Wanner and wife Ahiri of Durham, NC, Stuart Wanner of Salt Lake City, UT, Caroline Wanner of Santa Fe, NM, and Rebecca Wanner of Arlington, VA.
Everette attended the University of Richmond and taught school in Madison and Greene Counties. He was an office manager with the Agriculture Department and later worked for the postal service as a rural letter carrier. He was the Madison County Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance agent from 1954 through 1993, retiring after 39 years. Everette was a member of Etlan United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday School Treasurer, Superintendent, and Church Treasurer.
Everette had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He researched, wrote about, and modeled the Rapidan Railroad and its locomotives that were operated in Madison County in the 1920’s. He had a lifelong interest in studying and writing on “Merkels”, the Morel Mushroom native to Madison County. He served as chairman of the Bicentennial Committee that selected the present Madison County seal in 1976. Whether it was coin or stamp collecting, discussing politics, gardening, or his grandchildren, Everette always took the time to study his interests in depth and share with enthusiasm.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Etlan Cemetery with Pastor Matthew Schwenk officiating. Preddy Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of the arrangements.
