Carl Douglas Farmer, known to all as Doug, passed away on September 28, 2022 at his home and surrounded by his family. He was born in Pulaski, Va. on May 28, 1935 to the late Carl Otto Farmer and Helen Owens Farmer.

Doug was a minister of the Gospel, was a coach, and a former member of the Madison County School Board. He played football at University of North Carolina from ’53 to ’57. He was the founder and owner of Camp Shenandoah Springs. Doug was a gentleman and loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Elizabeth Howard Farmer; son, Mark Douglas Farmer and wife, Michelle Johnston Farmer; grandson, Dustin Christopher Farmer and wife Molly Shifflett Farmer; great-granddaughter, Thea Michelle Farmer; grandson, Gabriel Douglas Farmer, Brandon Milbourne and wife Whitney Fears Milbourne; great-granddaughter, Blair Stewart Milbourne, great-grandson, Conway Robert Milbourne; grandson, Devin Robert Milbourne; daughter, Anne Elizabeth “Beth” Farmer Poplin and husband Edward Jarrett Poplin, grandson, Jarrett Hunter Poplin and wife Bethany Bruner Poplin; great-grandson, Canyon Hunter Poplin, great-granddaughter, Avonlea Poplin, granddaughter, Summer Faith Todd and husband Jacob, Tyler Todd; great-grandson, Ezra Atlas Todd, daughter, Eliza Joy Todd; son, Jeffrey Howard Farmer and wife Pam Guthrie Farmer, granddaughter, Whitney Farmer Burkett and husband Matthew Burkett; great-grandson, Rowan Burkett and baby on the way; granddaughter, Cameron Elizabeth Farmer, granddaughter, Aubrey Madison Tyler and husband Marcus Tyler; great-grandson, Grayson Tyler and great-granddaughter, Sophia Arabelle Tyler; and all the Shenandoah Springs family.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Camp Shenandoah Springs. Interment will be in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 am to service time at 1:00 pm at Camp Shenandoah Springs. A covered dish for all those wishing to stay will be held at the Thunder Lodge.
