Virgelia Geraldine "Gerri" Ward              May 14, 2023

Virgelia Geraldine “Gerri” Ward, 83, of Madison, passed away Sunday May 14, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Born on January 7, 1940 in Charlottesville, Virginia, she was the daughter of James “Tom” Turner and Gertrude (Price) Turner. She married Alcy Scott Ward on November 18, 1961 and he preceded her on June 30, 2018.

Survivors include 3 children- Dr. Karen Turner Ward of Hampton, Virginia, Michael Ward of Columbus, Ohio, Gary “Bunny” Ward of Shelbyville, Indiana; 6 siblings- Lillian Holly of Charlottesville, Virginia, Carolyn Haywood of Madison, Virginia, Carroll Turner of Decatur, Illinois, Frank Turner of Decatur, Illinois, Bessie Rollins of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and William Turner of Madison, Virginia; 5 grandchildren- Keri Helen Hughes, Virgelia Jade Banks, Courtney Ward, Jordan Ward, Paige Ward; and 1 great-grandchild- Zikhaia Ward. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and 7 nephews.

Mrs. Ward graduated from Central High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1960, was a member of the Moose Lodge #2118, a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Madison, Virginia and attended Big Flat Rock Christian Church in Indiana. Mrs. Ward was an entrepreneur in the culinary and beauty industry. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, animals and spending time with family and loved ones.

A funeral service will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, May 27^th 2023, at Antioch Baptist Church in Madison, Virginia with Rev. Frank Lewis officiating. Interment will be held at the Gordon-Beasley Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be from 6 until 8p.m. on Friday, May 26^th 2023, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison.
