Steven Craig Lawson             May 5, 2023

Steven Craig Lawson, 68, of Stanardsville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. He has entered the secret gate to the garden path that runs west of the moon and east of the sun. There, white shores and a swift sunrise awaits.

He was born in Greene County, on August 31, 1954, to Willard Edward Lawson (deceased) and Evelyn Snow Lawson. What a great life he had. His childhood revolved around family, church, fishing, bird hunting and playing ball in Greene County. He worked his entire 41-year career with the City of Charlottesville, and was passionate about stone masonry, golfing at Greene Hills Club, refereeing VHSL basketball, smoking Papa’s Pig BBQ and cooking amazing meals for friends and family. Over the past 25 years, he was filled with joy playing with his five grandkids and watching them grow into amazing young people.

His mother was responsible for his faith. He loved Jesus and was comforted that his soul would be saved. He liked to ponder what heaven would be like and imagined it would include fishing with his grandfather Lawrence Snow, quail hunting with his father, and being reunited with his dog, Sandy, all while worshiping Him.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Cherri Conner Lawson; two daughters, Dawn Denise Lawson of Stanardsville, Mollie Lawson Davis and husband Gregg, of Stanardsville; and William Todd Kell and wife Taylor of Richmond; five grandchildren Meg and Haley Kell, Lillian and Mitchell Davis, and Lizzie Lawson; his mother Evelyn, brother Ronnie (Dorris), and sister Donna Roach (David). He is also survived by his many loved nieces and nephews.

Steve wanted to thank and honor his close friends, Allen Shank, Michael Snow, Nolan Morris, Kenny Morris, Bobby Poole, Larry Dudding, Aubrey Estes, and Tommy Tanner.

Steve asks that you don’t mourn him, instead pray for the children in your life and help them find their way.

Our family thanks Dr. Mark Prichard and staff for giving us 18 more months to love Steve; Paula Capobianco for her guidance; and Hospice of the Piedmont for their support and care.

In lieu of flowers, consider donating to Hospice of the Piedmont in Steve’s name.

Please join us for a celebration of life. It will be held at The Barn at Sunset Ridge (85 Summit View Drive, Ruckersville, VA) at 4 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023, with a reception afterwards at Greene Hills Club.
