Steve "Stevie" Wills           April 26, 2023

Steve Wills, known affectionately by many as “Stevie”, died peacefully at the University of Virginia Medical Center on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. He was 77 years old.

Steve was proceeded in death by his parents, Bertam B. Wills and Frances Davis Wills; as well as his youngest brother, Monroe B. Wills; his older sister, Katherine W. Barton; and his younger sister, Alva Marie Wills. Steve is survived by his daughter, Jenna Easton (Chris), and two grandchildren, Collier and Mattie. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph W. Wills and Stapleton W. Wills (Mary); niece Sarah B. Amick (J.R.); great-nephews Graham (Tiffany) and Michael, and their children.

It would be remiss to not mention others that Steve leaves behind such as lifelong friends Keith Holley, Ed Shifflett, and Jim Nowell, Steve’s best friend of nearly 60 years. Dad & Jim were the best of friends, supporting one another through many personal trials and triumphs. Despite the external pressures of racial differences, their bond was unbreakable for they knew true friendship is not determined by the color of one’s skin.

Dad was a generous friend to many, known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was a hard worker, having retired from Safeway in 1994 after 21 years of service. He later worked at the Old Mill Room at Boar’s Head Inn, where Steve was inspired to learn to speak Spanish in order to help co-workers overcome language barriers. He was an extended family member to many. More than the past 20 years were spent at his apartment complex, where he proudly served as the “Resident Property Manager”. Dad was known for his generous heart and his willingness to help anyone in need. One friend wrote the following –

EVERYBODY’S STEVE

A toast to your friend and mine, Steve Wills

with principles as “high as the hills”

ready to share a snack

or “the shirt off his back”

his friendship and humor any room fills.

A graveside service will be held at Mechanicsville Baptist Church Cemetery in Gordonsville on Sunday May 7th at 3pm. Anyone who wishes to is welcome to share stories of friendship and adventures with Dad. Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice, preferably one that works to make the world a better place for all.
