Sarah Elizabeth Turner, 89, of Gordonsville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Born on November 29, 1934, she was the daughter of Charles Bell Sr. and Myrtie Riner. In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her first husband, John Hobson Kennon, and her second husband, Elmer Linwood Turner.
Elizabeth was a very hard worker! She was good at her job, which was at a factory that built telephones. She prided herself on being able to do many jobs there, such as working on special phone features and talk-testing. She knew so much that she was able to serve as a substitute when people in different departments were out. She raised two kids of her own and helped her husband, Elmer, with his. With her second husband, she helped build a new home, and she knew every square inch of that home. She could do anything, bake anything, and made fresh biscuits just about every morning.
Driving and getting out and about, even just to browse sometimes in stores, were some of Elizabeth's favorite things to do. One of her favorite places to go was to visit her brother in Lancaster, PA. She also enjoyed dressing nicely, wearing nice costume jewelry, and getting her hair done. Listening to bluegrass music on the radio was another favorite pastime.
She enjoyed housework, folding clothes, looking at magazines and cards, along with the cooking and baking that she was so good at. Elizabeth was always the happiest when she was taking care of her family and when her hands stayed busy.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Nora Kennon Winkey and her husband, James, her son, Leo Kennon and his wife, Reta, her step-daughters, Gladys Haney, Margie Sacre, and Lucille Milici, and her step-sons, Charles Turner and James Turner. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wade Kennon, Aaron Kennon, Ellie Geldart, and Joel Kennon, her special niece, Peggy Bager, and many beloved great-grandchildren.
Her graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville.
