Ruben Edward Woodward, 87 of Wolftown, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at his home. He was born on November 21, 1935 to the late Lloyd Albert Woodward and Flossie Hurt Woodward. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Payton Woodward; sister, Thelma Moubray and husband Kays; brothers, Floyd Woodwood and wife Mae, Claude Woodward, Ross Woodward, William Woodward and wife Eva, Russell Woodward, Clemon Woodward and wife Gladys, Wayman Woodward; and grandson, Ruben “Harvey” Woodward, Jr; son-in-law, Robert Dean Davis.

He is survived by his children, Glena W. Garrett, Sherrill W. Deane and husband Danny, Queena W. Davis, Susan W. Houchens and husband David, Ruben Harvey “Bugs” Woodward and wife Laura; sister, Bessie Shifflette; brother, Leroy Woodward and wife Carolyn; sisters-in-law, Lucille Woodward, Alice Woodward, Brenda Woodward; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Shifflett and wife Kimberly, Amber Renee Woodward, Bryan Michael Shifflett, Kimberly Sprouse; great-grandchildren, Holly, Madison, Christopher Shifflett, Zhaivonte, Zaijaun Lewis; Landon Shifflett and special great-grandddaughter, Harper Noel Greene.

The family would like to thank and acknowledge his long-time friends who were like family at the Wolftown Store. We would also like to thank all of his lawn mower customers over the years. We are grateful to the UVA Cancer Center for support during his cancer treatments and to the doctors who supported him and family during the final weeks. A special thanks to granddaughter, Amber for all her help and comfort for the family during the last few months.

In honoring his wishes, no service will be held.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison.
