Royce Landon Hughes Jr., 88, of Melton Road, Orange, died on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the Dogwood Village of Orange. Royce was born on April 12, 1934 in Rapidan, and was the son of the late Royce Landon Hughes Sr. and Pearl Brown Hughes. He was also predeceased by a son in law John Wayne Herndon; a sister Brenda Patrick; and a grandson John R. Herndon.

Royce was a member and deacon at the Orange Baptist Church, a life member of the Orange County Rescue Squad, co owner of H and C Greens, and retired as assistant manager of the Safeway store.

Royce is survived by his wife Betty Jean Highlander Hughes of Orange; two daughters Carolyn Herndon of Barboursville, and Melisa Sacra of Orange; two sons David Wayne Hughes and wife Ann of Stoneville, NC, and Landon Phillip Hughes and wife Amy of Aroda; four grandchildren Joshua Herndon and wife Emily, Phillip Hughes, Andrew Hughes, and Ethan Hughes and wife Andrea; and five great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. graveside at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery, Rapidan. Rev. Alan Miller will officiate. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family.
