Randolph "Randy" Scott Henshaw      February 17, 2025

Randolph “Randy” Scott Henshaw, 76 of Novum, Va., passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 11, 1948, to the late Scott and Gerline Henshaw of Novum. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert “Bobby” Henshaw.

Randy is survived by his wife, Stephanie; sons Ben DeBoer and wife, Jessica; Chris DeBoer and wife, Laura; James DeBoer and wife, Ashley; and Scott Henshaw and wife, Bailey; brother William Henshaw and family; and grandchildren Sam, Rachel, Cooper, Charlotte, Hannah, and Rowdy; and lifelong friend, Mike Tanner.

Randy was a lifelong farmer and loved the land and all animals. Many livestock animals became pets after being nursed and hand-fed. Dogs were constant companions from the farm truck to his recliner. No dog could find a better home than with Randy, including those he dog-napped (and renamed) from his own children.

Randy was a natural father to all of his boys. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted friend and neighbor, with deep roots in Novum and Madison County.

After his father’s passing Randy became the head of the family. Being a big brother and caring for his younger brother Bobby was one of his greatest pleasures in life. He was a natural caretaker, from his brothers and mother, to farm animals, extended family, friends and neighbors, and his own wife, children, and grandchildren. While in his recliner he could usually be found with dogs and/or small children on his lap. Once he became “Pops” to his grandkids, he was known as “Pops” or “Pop” to the whole family.

He graduated from Madison County High School in 1966. He was a lifelong member of the Madison County Young Farmers and supporter of 4H and the Madison County Fair. He was proud to farm his family’s Century Farm and was the fourth generation to do so. He lived his whole life in the house built by his grandfather.

He loved to dance, and was known for his smooth dancing at any occasion.

He attended F.T. Baptist Church and was a former deacon and thoroughly enjoyed playing on the church softball team on summer Sunday afternoons. Most Sunday afternoons also included watching NASCAR races as a devoted fan. He always said Sunday was a day of rest because it never paid to work on Sundays.

Visitation for the family will be Friday, February 21, from noon to 2 pm at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm. Interment will be at the Henshaw Family Cemetery in Novum following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
