Peter Hutchind                                               March 11, 2025

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Peter Hutchind, age 84, of Brightwood, Madison, quietly passed from life to death with the full knowledge that he was going to be with Jesus. Before going to sleep he had told his wife that he saw a light shining under the door which she was not able to see.

Born on May 9, 1940 to parents Andrew & Peneta Nicholopoulas, née Georgoulakos in Webster, Massachusetts, he was raised by his mother, Peneta and step-father, Howard Benjamin Hutchind in Culpeper, VA. He attended Culpeper County High School and worked at various jobs in life: as a cook, a security guard and snowplow operator for the state in northern VA, with his dad and brother doing construction/repair work, a welder at Old Dominion, and for many years in maintenance at Rochester Ropes. Peter was an accomplished artist in his own right, creating artwork in graphite, charcoal and chalks. He has created portraits, landscape and nature scenes including animals, many of which are hanging in various offices and buildings in Madison and Culpeper.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Betty Lou Alger Hutchind, his grandson, Alexander Augustine Ordonez-Cerrato who knew him as both father and grandfather. Also surviving are his brother, Charles Howard Hutchind (Mary Ellen) of Culpeper, VA, two nephews, Charles Benjamin Hutchind (Karen) of Locust Grove, VA, Nicholas Curtis Hutchind (Jessica) of Bedford, VA, one niece, Molly Suzanne Hutchind of Culpeper, VA; extended Alger family relatives in Madison, VA and numerous nieces and nephews in Webster, MA including paternal cousin, Leah DiDonato.

Peter was preceded in death by his mother, Peneta Hutchind, 1923-1962, the father who raised him, Howard Benjamin Hutchind 1910-1994, and most recently, daughter Tina Kay Hutchind Ordonez-Cerrato on May 29, 2024 (b. March 20, 1968).
A graveside funeral service will be held at a later date when both father and daughter will be laid to rest together.
Preddy Funeral Home of Madison is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter Hutchind’s memory may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
