Peggy Josephine Carpenter Cross              July 15, 2023

Peggy Josephine Carpenter Cross

December 7, 1946 – July 15, 2023

Peggy grew up in Gordonsville and moved back permanently in 2012. Although her zip code changed more than a few times over the years, for Peggy, the town of Gordonsville was always home. Whether in celebration or sadness, happiness or heartache, the brick house at the corner of Baker and Gentry was her touchstone. There, her beloved parents Ray and Myrtle Carpenter were always a source of strength and unconditional love. One of the things she was proudest of and most grateful for in her life was being their daughter.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her cherished brother, Matt and her precious granddaughter, Alexis.

Seeking comfort in memories of their Mom are Peggy’s four children; daughter Kim Garrison and husband Mike of Madison, daughter Becky Cuba and husband Tommy of Fredericksburg, son Wayne Whitbeck, Jr. and wife Allison of Owatonna, Minnesota, and son John Cross, Jr. and partner Rhiannon of Midlothian. Left with lots of Grandma Peggy stories to share are her grandchildren; Courtney Monroe and husband Scott, Natalie Cuba, and Nick Whitbeck. She will also be lovingly remembered by her big brother Eddie Carpenter and his wife Pat, sister-in law Carolyn Bickers, and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews.

Peggy’s children wish to thank very special friends Dana, Barb, Janice, and Peggie for all the love, laughter, and support they gave to her. You enriched her life with your friendship and we are so grateful she had you in her life.

As a woman of strong faith, we rest assured that Peggy’s soul rejoices in her home going. She is healed and whole with her Lord, and at long last reunited with those she so sorely missed.

In keeping with her wishes, no memorial service will be held. Instead, she would rather we all celebrate and remember her by doing some of her favorite simple things. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee or a cold glass of wine. Treat yourself to Captain George’s. Have a cream horn or a Klondike Bar (maybe 2). Watch a NASCAR race, The Big Bang Theory reruns, or a movie on the Hallmark Channel. She would want to remind us all to send a text to that friend or loved one you haven’t heard from in a while. Be kind and give people grace even when you don’t think they deserve it. Most importantly, keep moving forward.

Please remember her fondly, often, and in your own way.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
