Norma Lee Jarrell Shifflett, 85, passed away from this life on June 13, 2023 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Tazewell, VA of complications from her eleven-year battle with Dementia. She was born on Middle River, Greene Co. Va. on April 8, 1938 to the late Frank and Bertha Leigh Jarrell. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years, Milford Wayne Shifflett on April 13, 2020. Her brother Milton Earl Jarrell, sister Marie Roudabush, infant brother Melvin Jarrell, and ‘Angel Baby’ Shifflett also preceded her. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary W. Shifflett (Myra) of Pounding Mill, VA and Timothy D. Shifflett of Harrisonburg, VA. Her three grandchildren, whom she dearly loved and who cherish the time they spent with Granny and PopPop, also survive: Joshua Shifflett (Ashley Larman), Sugar Land Tx., Paige Hodges (Ethan), Princeton WV., and Wesley Shifflett (Kelsie) Ruckersville Va. She also leaves six great-grandchildren, Collin, Grayson and Kian Hodges, and Faith, Nolan, and Sophia Larman.
Norma attended Madison County High School where she met Milford whom she married on July 27, 1955. She and Milford made their home in Wolftown, VA until both moved to The Renaissance Facility in Stanardsville, VA, and then into Heritage Hall in December, 2019. Besides tirelessly making a home for her family, Norma Lee worked at Blue Bell for several years. She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Church of the Brethren and, until illness prevented her faithful attendance, she was an avid worker with the Church’s annual Lawn Party, Apple Butter making and Women’s Work quilting group.
The family will receive friends remembering Norma and Milford on Saturday June 17, 2023 from 1-3 pm at Shiloh Church of the Brethren, 4765 Middle River Road at Stanardsville, VA (Kinderhook). Brother Glenn Shifflett will officiate the funeral service at 3:00 pm at the Church with burial following at the Church cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
