Maureen Jennie Kevlahan Ferguson, 62, of Gordonsville, VA., left this world to be with her Heavenly Father on November 23, 2021. Born March 10, 1959 to the late Henry George and Dorothy Marie (Gibson) Kevlahan of Westwood, NJ, She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Ferguson, her siblings, Patricia and (Alan) Lightweis of SC, Andrew and Melissa (Flint) Kevlahan of NJ, Mary Alice and (Mark) Heitzman of SC; her beloved Aunt Maureen and cousins Dean, Glen, Daren, and Richard Tizzard of Christchurch, England; and her cousin Marie Travers of NC. Maureen was predeceased in death by her two brothers, Stephen and Christopher of NYC and SC., her maternal grandparents; Marie Endicott and Lincoln Abraham Gibson. Her paternal grandparents; Sarah O’Neil Hazzard and Patrick Kevlahan.

Born in NYC, Maureen grew up in Westwood, N.J. surrounded by siblings and cousins. Her special U.S. cousins; Donna, Daniela, Tom, Sheila and Theresa McGrath as well as Larry, Robert and Siobann Travers were always close at hand to enjoy a great laugh with her or have a wonderful camping expedition.

Maureen’s schools included Zion Lutheran Elementary then onto the public schools of Westwood, NJ. Her Undergraduate and Masters degree were achieved at Concordia College in Bronxville, NY and at Rutgers University in NJ.

Maureen’s specialty in finance prepared her for the business world of which she took particular interest as a financial specialist in the media-merger-mania of the 1990s. Maureen was renowned for consolidation mergers and assisted mega-corporations such as Viacom and Paramount with their acquisitions. Afterward, Maureen settled down at Simon and Schuster where she met her lifelong friends, Joe Walker and his wife, Dotty.

Maureen began work for MPS Publishing which brought about her permanent move to Gordonsville, VA. Both Jane and Sloan, her close friends and co-workers, were particularly helpful with her responsibilities at MPS. Special friends, Keith and Pat were a crutch and joy for Maureen as she transitioned to retirement December 2020. Maureen was deeply appreciative of her respected relationships and friendships with the staff of MPS in Gordonsville. VA.

Maureen married her beloved husband, Thomas Ferguson, while surrounded by her worldwide family on November 5, 2011 in Gordonsville, VA. Tom was the light in her life. She is survived by Tom and his children, Thomas Ferguson and daughter, Crystal Ferguson and her son Nicholas; her step grandchildren Audra, Anthon, Lauren, Tara, and Jaden; her step great grandchildren, Adalyn, Olivia, Myla and Natalie.

Maureen was devoted to her nieces and nephews. Her love of Thanksgiving, many spent with them, will always be remembered. Their names are: Bonnie and(Phillip) Schmidt, Karen Buchanan and (Chris), Bryan Lightweis, Jennie and (Chip) Lightweis-Goff, Patrick Kevlahan, Dana Kevlahan, Sean and (Alyssa) Kevlahan, Heather and (Chris) Copollo, Alexandrea Oliver and (Scott), and Christine Oliver. The great nieces and nephews are: Brittany, Brandon, Lauren, Harper, Madeline, Violet, Penny, Henley and the newest, David.

Maureen’s love for animals, particularly “rescues” is fondly remembered. Her dear Jax, her dog and her cat Luna will miss her presence. Maureen had a love of travel, often visiting her Tizzard cousins in Christchurch, England in addition to her father’s homeland of Ireland. She was musically and artistically talented, enjoying the arts, antiques and history and reading. Her culinary skills are infamous!

Maureen was lovingly nicknamed “More” by her close family. Selfishly, we all wanted “More” of her. Her kindness, her grace, her faithfulness were so abundant. Her ability to listen, without judgement, sifting the worth and blowing the unimportant away was always her specialty. She is at rest and at peace. We will always love her and deeply miss her.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 17th at 11:00 am at Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to your favorite animal rescue organization or the American Heart Association.
