George “Bill” William Cook Sr., 89 of Madison, VA, left this world to be with the Lord on November 20, 2021. Bill was born on March 18, 1932 in Louisville, KY to Walter Cook Sr. and Augusta (Seng) Cook. He was laid to rest on November 26, 2021 at Madison Memorial Gardens, Pratts, VA.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother and his beloved wife, Bess Browning Cook. He is survived by his son George “Billy” William Cook Jr. (Raney) of Spencerport, NY; daughters Julie Clemons (Tim) of Madison, VA; and Gretchen Csikos (Bob) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren Sarah Peachey (Jordan), Joshua Clemons (Fanita), Caleb Clemons, Andrew Csikos, Abigail Csikos, Lydia Csikos and Jesse Cook as well as 6 great grandchildren.
Bill grew up in Kentucky and became a plumber’s apprentice at 14. He joined the Plumber and Pipefitters Union in July, 1950 after graduating high school. He joined the Army Reserves and served 2 years. During this time, he met his future wife Bess, at church. They married in 1953 and moved to Daytona Beach, FL where Bill continued plumbing. He worked on several large construction projects, most notably, Peck’s Plaza. He retired after more than 50 years of plumbing.
Bill enjoyed anything as long as his wife was involved. He enjoyed scuba diving, boating and motorcycle riding to name a few. Together they served at several churches in the Daytona Beach area and were part of a marriage ministry for several years. After retiring, Bill and Bess volunteered at Hospice for over 6 years. Bill’s love for his wife was observed by everyone that knew him. They dated for 3 years and were married for 67 years. The family is comforted to know that Bess and Bill are together with the Lord.
