Martha Ann Colombini                  June 20, 2023

Martha Ann Colombini, 85 of Charlottesville, died Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Morningside of Charlottesville. Born November 15, 1938, in Tampa, Fla., Mar was the daughter of the late Carleton and Martha Johnson of Tampa. She was also predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Carlo Colombini. She is survived by her sister, Barbara DeGarmo of New York City, two nieces, Madden DeGarmo Manion of Decatur, Ga., and Julie DeGarmo of New York, and their four children.

Mar graduated from Florida State University in 1960 with a major in chemistry. When she was a freshman, she met Carlo in the chemistry lab, where he was doing post-graduate work. They married right after Mar graduated, and they then set off on a long, adventurous and very active journey together, a journey that included frequent visits to his family and friends in Italy and throughout Europe and a stint at the University of Padua, where Carlo did research work before they eventually decided to settle in Charlottesville.

Mar was an avid tennis player, a golf afficionado and a superb gardener. She also earned a master’s from the University of Virginia and taught science first at St. Anne’s and then Albemarle High School. She and Carlo enjoyed cooking for and entertaining their many friends, and they loved their Cavaliers, attending multiple sporting events as well as participating in university support activities.
