Marion Lee Hawkins            December 23, 2022

Marion Lee Hawkins, 81, doting husband, step-father, and grandfather passed away on December 23, 2022 with his wife of more than 20 years by his side in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Hawkins Sr., and Phoebe W. Hawkins, his two brothers, Franklin D Hawkins, John A Hawkins Jr., and grandson Montgomery Hamm.

Lee is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jane Hendricks of Keswick; his son Micheal A Hawkins, and step-daughters, Elizabeth Hamm (Jessie Shiflett) and Jolene Hamm (Alonzo Johnson). In addition to his son and step-daughters, he is survived by his step-grandchildren, Tristan Winn, Landon and Rylan Hamm-Shiflett, Amelia, Griffin, and Rowan Hamm-Johnson, as well as his natural grandchildren and one natural great-grandchild, and three surviving siblings, Shirley Irby, Joyce Haney, Phoebe Brooks and several nieces and nephews (and his small side kick, Bella).

Lee was a businessman by profession, which brought many stories and lessons to go with his business experiences. He was also a horseman. However, the thing that gave Lee the great joy over the last 30 years or so was doting on his wife with their miscellaneous adventures (one of which included coming home married); or step-grandchildren who kept his life busy and filled with joy whether it was sharing the whole five-gallon bowl of ice cream with two spoons (this often got him a lecture from his wife), to tractors rides, to getting them off the school bus, to trips out of state to watch baseball, or just having his recliner being shared with his grandchildren that would call for “EE” the minute they walked in the door.

His service will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, December 30th, 2022 at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange. Internment will follow at Graham Cemetery, with Chaplain David Flack officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family with arrangements.
