Marie Knight Palmer, 85, of Dyke, Virginia, joined our loving Creator on December 26, 2024. She was born on May 16, 1939, to Ivan and Sylvia Knight. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Iva and Jeff Shifflett. She’s also survived by four grandchildren: Lee Bare, Erin Marshall (Austin), Tyler Bare, and Jenna Bare; as well as five great-grandchildren: Emelyn, Aiden, Easton, Isley, and Adelyn. Additionally, she’s survived by her sister, Charlotte Powell (Calvin) and a multitude of wonderful nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Sylvia, her loving husband, James, her older sister and brother-in-law, Merium and Jim Jinks, and a niece that was like another daughter to her, Kristie Powell Shifflett.
Marie was lovingly known as “Ree” or “Winky” to many. She loved gardening, mowing grass, cooking, and hosting special meals for her family and friends. Everyone felt at home the moment they walked into her door. She cared greatly for others and would give abundantly to help anyone in need. She and her late husband, James, were incredibly devoted to their family. They often took care of their loved ones including her mother, Sylvia Knight, who spent her final years in their home. Marie avidly prayed for and poured into others. From a young age she had been a member at Nortonsville Church of God where she had a large extended church family that she also deeply cared for. Most importantly, she loved the Lord with all of her heart and her life reflected that. She was kind, compassionate, joyful, and a Godly example to all.
Visitation will be held from 10-11am on 1/3/25, at Nortonsville Church of God, with a funeral service following immediately after at 11am. Pastor Greg Payne and Pastor James David Allison will be officiating. The burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, VA. Flowers may be sent to Preddy Funeral Home at 59 Edgewood School Lane Madison, VA 22727 by Thursday, 1/2/25. Monetary donations can also be made in honor of Marie to Nortonsville Church of God, 1505 Simmons Gap Road Dyke, VA 22935.
A special thank you to the staff at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County and Medi Home Hospice of Charlottesville who cared for her with compassion and love. Our family is forever grateful for your kindness and support.
