Joyce Richards, 91 died on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the Willow Estates Retirement Community, located in Penn Laird, VA. Joyce was born on September 25, 1931, to the late Elmer and Mollie Dean. She grew up in Rockingham County and later moved to Orange, VA with her husband Robert. They owned and operated the Sears store in Orange. After retiring they enjoyed boating and traveling until his death.

In 2002 she married Wayne Richards the former pastor of Black Oak Baptist Church in Culpeper, VA which she became a member.  They enjoyed antiquing and going to yard sales. After life began to slow down for them, they enjoyed one another in the comfort of their home by playing cards and other games.

Beside her husband Wayne (Waynie), she is survived by her step-daughter Donna Dodson (John), grandchildren Molly Crumb (Chris), Bobby Showalter (Natalie) of Orlando, Florida. Step grandson Marc Dodson (Jen) of Crimora, VA. 3 great grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded by her first husband Robert Showalter, her son Bob Showalter.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 12:00 Noon, at the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange, VA. With a visitation one hour before the service. Pastor Quentin Parlett will conduct the service. Interment will be in the Graham Cemetery, Orange.
