Joni Sue Capelle, 57 of Gordonsville, died Monday January 30, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 5, 1965 in Huntsville Alabama she was the daughter of Ret. Lt. Col. Bob Burman Lukens of Lake Anna and the late Barbara Claire Keller Lukens. 

A 25 year resident of Orange County, VA, Joni spent many years active in the community volunteering with the Gordonsville Friends of the Library, Gordon-Barbour Elementary School, and the Friends of Barboursville where her willingness to share her time and talents was greatly valued.

Joni had a master’s degree of computer science from George Mason University, and was employed by SWIFT of Culpeper and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, although her vocation and greatest joy was being “jandjmom”. Joni’s infectious smile, kind heart and love for family, friends and fun will always be remembered and cherished.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her son, John Jared Capelle of Centreville, VA, her daughter, Jordan Capelle of Gordonsville, a brother, Mark Lukens and wife Karen of Stafford, two sisters, Bambi Munos and husband Phil of Fairfax, Beth Harshman and husband Rick of Annandale, nieces and nephews, Sara Hartman, Chase Munos, Nicholas Harshman, Keifer Harshman and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
