James "Jimmy" Oscar Murray, 67 of Etlan, Va. passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 at his home. He was born on February 4, 1958 to the late John Dewey Murray, Jr. and Evelyn Mae Smith Murray.
Jimmy retired from VDOT after 42 years of service. He attended Etlan Community Church, loved volunteering at Graves Mountain Lodge’s music and apple festivals, and cooking steaks at Madison County Fair. Most of all he loved the Lord, his family, and his community. Taking care of his village ( Etlan), his cows, his big blue tractor, and his grandchildren were just some of Jimmy’s greatest passions. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and JV Girls softball.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Temple Lynn Hitt Murray; daughters, Melissa Jones (Kelvin) and Sara Beth Murray (Russel); sons, Jay Murray (Christy) and Justin Murray (Robyn); brother, Bucky Murray (Diane); sister, Stephanie Murray (Gerald); aunts, Lois Berry (Tommy), Barbara Cochran; grandchildren, Akyshia Brown-Kaleopaa (Uyurre), Kabren Jones, Aubrey Murray, Abigail Murray, Gunner Favorite, Blake Murray, Timber Mae Favorite. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Etlan Community Church with Pastor Matt Schwenk officiating. Interment will be in Etlan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison.
