James “J.B.” Smith, 78 of Barboursville, Va. passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at UVA Hospital. He was born on December 14, 1944 to the late Warren Ken Smith Sr. and Thelma Novella Walker Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Jean Flint Smith; two brothers, Warren K. Smith, Jr. and Harold Eugene Smith.

J. B. loved his family first. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His passions were the cabin, hunting, and fishing. If he wasn’t at home, you could find him there.

He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Denise Smith of Louisa and Sandra Kai Dowling of Barboursville; brother, Dallas Dexter Smith; sisters, Novella G. McCracken and Connie Buckhannon; grandchildren, James Earl Smith and wife Kayla, Kenna Shayne Hershel Peacock, Luther William Peacock; great-grandchildren, Aroara Kay Peacock, Sophia Serinity Peacock, Alexander Gremenec LaTour, Kai James Smith, Mitchell Bower, Luke Edward Alan Pullen; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for family will be held at a later date.
