James (Jimmy) Edwin Wills, 82, of Troy, Virginia passed into eternal peace on February 23, 2023 at Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. He was born on February 27, 1940 to the late Curtis and Dorothy Wills.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Joanne Goodson Wills and his brother Wallace Boots Wills.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Jamie Wills-Payne of Troy and her fiancé David Wood of Palmyra. Jimmy is also survived by his sister Mary Tilman and her husband David of Palmyra, devoted brother Tommy Wills and his wife Cheryl of Troy, sister-in-law Donna Wills of Palmyra, dear friends Sonny Tomlin of Troy and Bobby Lanford of Palmyra, and his beloved grand dog Eva Joy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends who loved his kind, gentle way and his quick wit. He had a gift for making others laugh.
Jimmy graduated from Fluvanna County High School. After high school he went to work at Centel in Charlottesville and retired after 35 years of service. His passions were restoring and collecting antique farm equipment, working on his farm, and most of all cutting grass. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Jimmy volunteered with the Palmyra Fire Company and the Kents Store Rescue Squad. His biggest accomplishment in life was the way he loved, protected, and provided for his family. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.
His daughter would like to thank the UVA Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, Albemarle Health and Rehabilitation Center, Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care during Jimmy's illness.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at the Beaver Dam Baptist Church cemetery, located at 1794 Richmond Road, Troy, VA 22974.
