Helen Hawkins Butler, 94, of Stanardsville, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Martha Jefferson Hospital with her daughter by her side, five days shy of her 95th birthday.
Born on July 22, 1927, in Rochelle, Va., Helen was the daughter of the late Roy Hawkins and Eutha Morris Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Royce F. Butler; brothers, Hansford Hawkins and Ray Hawkins; and sisters, Myrie Darnell and Elna Daniel.
Helen was a member of Rose Park United Methodist Church. In addition to her church, she loved to play bridge, sew, watch golf (and play in her younger years), and most of all spend time with family, especially Friday night dinners with a game of Setback.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Debra Wilson and husband, Brent; her granddaughter, Laura Arrington and husband, Mark; and her great-grandchildren, Pace, Tavner, Anna Gray, and Helen “Ellie”. Helen is also survived by special nephew Joseph R. Daniel and wife, Linda; and special niece Betty Sue Daniel.
A memorial service for Helen will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison, Virginia followed by interment at Rose Park United Methodist Church. Wear pink if you’d like, Helen’s favorite color, and join the family for a luncheon at Rose Park United Methodist Church following the service to celebrate the life of a wonderful woman and “Great Mama.”
