Raymond Glenn (Glynn) Coleman, of Orange, passed on March 4, 2022, at the age of 95. Glynn was born to Carl and Cecil Coleman on April 19, 1926, in Fruitland, Tennessee. After graduating from Peabody High School in Trenton, Tennessee in 1944, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944-1946, as a Corporal, Radar Mechanic. He was stationed in Germany after the war ended and then to Paris until 1946.

After WWII, he attended Murray State College in Kentucky and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts in 1949. After graduation, he moved to Orange, Virginia to teach Industrial Arts at Orange County High School. Here he met Betty Dofflemoyer while boarding at her mother Marguerite’s home. They married August 11, 1951, and remained together for 70 years.

After leaving OCHS, Glynn worked at Virginia Metal Products as assistant building products sales manager and sales manager for Jr. Partitions Division. While at VMP he served on the Steel Door Institute as Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee, was President of the VMP Credit Union and of the VMP Management Club. Glynn then worked for Virginia National Bank before transitioning to C.R. Butler in 1972, where he retired in 1991. In retirement he worked as an independent locksmith for many years.

Glynn strongly believed in community service and served as President of Orange County Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1955, President of the Orange County Jaycees and was an active member of the Orange Lions Club for over 30 years. He was active in the Town of Orange Centennial celebration in 1972. Glynn was a member of the Orange Baptist Church and served as Deacon and Trustee over the years.

Glynn is survived by his wife Betty D. Coleman, son David W. Coleman and his wife Laura W. and granddaughter Emma C. W. Coleman of Williamsburg Virginia, and sister Nancy Coleman of Santa Rosa Beach Fl. Also, Nieces Catherine D. Strader of Cedar Grove, NJ and Jo S. McQueen of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and nephews Patrick C. Devine Jr and Michael R. Devine of Va Beach and William (Bill) F. Devine of Lexington, VA.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent staff and level of care provided by Dogwood Village Senior Living of Orange County.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Orange Baptist Church.
