Granville Hollister Utz, Jr., 89 of Oak Park, Va., passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in Charlottesville, Va. He was born on April 13, 1932 to the late Granville Hollister Utz, Sr. and Clara Ella Knight Utz. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ann Dwyer Utz; brother, James Toliver Utz; sisters, Betty Duff, Charlotte Brookings, and Cherie Dowden.
He was a deacon at Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church in Brightwood. He was a master electrician and plumber, owner/operator of Utz Heating with his brother, Coleman, and retired as superintendent for Virginia Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his daughter, Jil Sweeney and husband Jim of Glen Allen, Va.; sons, Granville Hollister (Jack) Utz, III and wife Donna of Shelby, Va. and Jeremy Utz and wife Jessica of Mechanicsville, Va.; brothers, Coleman Utz and wife Virginia of Pratts, Va. and Ross Utz and wife Virginia Dare of Oak Park, Va.; sister, Emily Amos of Madison; grandchildren, Austin Utz, Holly Ezell and husband Jarrett, Joseph Utz, Luke Hudgins, Ashley Rosado and husband Nino; great-grandchildren, Caylie Ezell, Hayden Ezell, Brock Taylor and Alyssa Taylor.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 7, 2022 at Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church in Brightwood. Elders Gary Utz and Jason Adams will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.
