Grant Elliott McDaniel, 77, Orange, died peacefully holding his wife’s hand, on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at his residence. Grant was born on October 8, 1944 in Orange County, and was the son of the late Haywood Earl McDaniel and Maxine Elliott Branham McDaniel. Grant is also predeceased by a sister Jean Brown, three brothers-in-law Michael Cook; Gordon Breeden and Roy Breeden; parents-in-law Mike and Irene Breeden, and his best buddy Gilbert.
Grant was a long-time supporter of the 4-H program, the Orange County Children’s Toy Box, and the Orange County Library Foundation. He owned and operated Orange Tire and Recap, Inc. for 30 years. Grant was a past recipient of the Orange County Businessman of the Year Award.
Grant is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Jean Breeden McDaniel of Orange; a daughter Melissa and husband Kyle Meador of Orange; a son Brian McDaniel of Orange; three grandchildren Becca and husband Troy Schill of Louisa, Allyson Meador of Orange, Jakob Meador of Orange, and granddog Jameson; two brothers Earl McDaniel and Sue of Gordonsville, and Tony McDaniel and Bev of Orange; three sisters Barbara Cook of Gordonsville, Margaret Lamb of Gordonsville, and Betty McGhee of Gordonsville; three brothers-in-law Buford Breeden of Orange, who was his right-hand man, James Breeden and wife Daisy of Bristol, TN, and John Breeden of Orange; five sisters-in-law Irene Richardson and Rudy of Gordonsville, Becky Turner and Darryl of Orange, Bonnie Breeden of Orange, Mary Breeden of Orange, and Joyce Thomas of Orange.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Kevin McConnell, Tracy Reynolds, Dr. Lawrence Keller, and the Hospice of the Piedmont for their support and compassion over the years.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 12:00 Noon at the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 Noon before the memorial service at the funeral home. Interment will be private. The service will be officiated by Rudy Richardson. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local 4-H program, the Hospice of the Piedmont, or simply lend a hand to someone in need.
