Gerald Allison Herring, 88 of Charlottesville, Va. joined his wife, Alma, and The Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on February 3, 1934 to the late Benjamin Franklin Herring and Lolie Mary Bruce Herring.

Gerald was a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He left school in eighth grade to work as a truck driver. He was an U. S. Army veteran and worked for Pepsi Cola for thirty-five years and retired at the age of 55. Gerald was an avid farmer and loved his John Deere tractor. Taking care of his beef cattle and cutting hay was his passion.

He is survived by his sister, Alice Straley.; daughter, Kim Rutland and husband Barry of Harrisonburg, Va.; son, Chris Herring and wife Cassie of Charlottesville, Va.; grandchildren, Kylie Herring, Miley Herring, Ally Rutland, and Emily Rutland Marion.; great grandchild, Blythe Norman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Herring. Gerald was married to his first and only love, Alma for 49 years. She passed away in late 2005 and he knew one day they would be together again.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church at 2620 Frays Mill Rd, Ruckersville, VA 22968 or The Alzheimer's Association.
