G. Alan Spivey                 October 13, 2022

G. Alan Spivey, 70, of Aroda passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at his home. He was born on January 16, 1952 to the late Malvern Pittman Spivey and Gladys Worrell Spivey.

Alan was a farrier and a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Jane Spivey: daughter, Allison (Eric) of Marshall, Va.; and sister, Judy Hodges (Tom) of Richmond, Virginia.

Alan was a 4-H All Star and volunteered as an announcer at the Virginia State 4-H Horse Show for 52 years. He served as president and founding member of the Central Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, president of Virginia Cattleman’s Association, President of the Virginia Simmental Association, President of the Virginia Forage and Grasslands Council, and chairman of the Madison County Fair. He loved his family and his farm. He was always quick to raise his hand to volunteer, and he especially enjoyed his relationship with his shoeing clients and friends within the farming community.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery with Pastor Patricia Nabers officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, October 16, 2002 at Preddy’s Funeral Home in Madison, Va.

Memorial Contributions may be made to The Virginia State 4- H Horse Program. Checks can be made payable to the Virginia Tech Foundation, 902 Prices Fork Rd, Blacksburg, VA 24061. Please include in memory of Alan Spivey in the memo.
