Evelina Butler Carpenter, 79 of Brightwood, passed away on Wednesday, February 01, 2023. She was born on December 9, 1943 to the late Thomas Jackson Butler and Mabel Leslie Soutter Butler. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Linda Elaine Fox.

She worked as the county registrar for Madison County for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Elizabeth Carpenter Hurlock and husband Anthony; grandchildren, Alexis Faith Hurlock and Madeline Hope Hurlock; and former husband, John Thomas (Junior) Carpenter, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with interment in Oak Grove United Methodist Church at Aylor, Va.  The family will receive friends on hour before the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.  Pastor Hans Murdock will be conducting the service.
