Clarence Edward Baker                November 3, 2022

Clarence Edward Baker, 90 of Aroda, Va. passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home. He was born on December 31, 1931 to the late Clarence Earl Baker and Kathryn Josephine Preusser Baker. He was also preceded in death by a son, Edward Earl Baker and a sister, Mary Lou Aubele.

Clarence had an inner drive to learn widely and to excel. He thrived on challenges. He was a SCUBA instructor in its early days; a Big Brother; he earned his Coast Guard Six-pack license and delivered boats in the Caribbean and to NYC; constructed furniture and displays for the Madison County Library and for years volunteered with the Diocese’ annual WorkCamp which facilitates teens’ service work in the community.

Together, he and Rose made life a great adventure.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Ruyak Baker; daughter, Mary Diane Baker and husband Calvin Dame of Brattleboro, Vt.; grandchildren, Alyson and Josh Dame Vermette, Jan Damm, Ariele Ebacher,; great-grandchildren, Cai Dame Vermette, Tess Dame Vermette, Timo Damm and Ilsa Damm.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November, 12, 2022 at Our Lady of the Blue Ridge Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison. Interment will be at a later date in Vermont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Madison Emergency Services and their food pantry, 927 Orange Road, Pratts, Va. 22731.
