Charlie Thurman Berrey Jr. 91 of Crozet, formerly of Madison passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 in the Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born January 18, 1930 to the late Charlie Thurman Berrey Sr. and Mattie Breeden Berrey. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mildred Clore Berrey and grandson Kevin LanierThomas
Charles was a partner in Farm and Home Service of Madison, owner and operator of C.T. Berrey and Son Trucking of Madison and one of five original partners of Madison Wood Preservers. He was a member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for ten years, member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, past member of the American Legion and Madison JC’s. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by daughters, Leigh Ann Thomas and husband Ronald of Roanoke, Danielle Gay Berrey of Crozet; son, Charles Michael Berrey and wife Debby of Fruitland Park, FL; brother, Harold Randall Berrey and wife Mary Ann of Keswick; grandchildren, Kendra Ermel (Bryant), Jason Taggart, Joanna Stoneburner (James), Tracy McGinnis (Brian), Ronald Baker (Marie) Angela Norris (Parran); nine great grandchildren and special friend Sue Renard of Crozet.
A graveside funeral will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Cedar Hill Cemetery conducted by Pastor Jason Darty. The family will receive friends at the Firehouse following the service.
