Surrounded by loved ones, William Richard Alexander, 90, died peacefully on April 17, 2023.
Born in Paris, Missouri, Mr. Alexander spent most of his life living and working as an electrician in Washington, D.C., and Herndon, Virginia.
Over the course of more than nine decades, he was legendary for his zest for living and many interests, as well as for his generous spirit and strong faith. His affiliations are too numerous to document within the limitations of a single article, but he was proud to declare himself as a more than 60-year member of the Local 26 branch of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union; a 42-year member and former Worshipful Master of Herndon Lodge #264 (Herndon, Virginia); a past president of McKinley Tech High School Golden Techites (Washington D.C.); and an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). His legacy includes a lifetime of involvement in the Boy Scouts of America and as a founding member and past president of the International Professional Car Society.
Known to the family as “Buster,” he was born one of six children. He was preceded in death by: Parents, Paul Alexander, and Ruth Grimes Alexander; Siblings Liza Ragland, Lois Schoefield, Jane Shaw, Paul Alexander III, and Robert Alexander; his wife (and mother of their five children): Jacquelynn Ford Alexander; granddaughters, Melinda Tidman and Cassandra Tidman; great-granddaughter Torvi Jean Kapp.
Mr. Alexander leaves behind his devoted wife of almost seven years, Beth Tilberg Cahill. Additionally, he is survived by five adult children: Kim Burgess Alexander (wife Susie) of Olongapo City, Philippines; Wade William Alexander (wife Peggy) of Philippi, WV; Kevin Robert Alexander (wife Debbie) of Purcellville, VA; Martha Alexander Stuart (husband Philip) of Mt. Jackson, VA, and Victoria Anne Tidman (husband Graeme) of Culpeper, VA. He was proud to be blessed with 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with a Masonic Burial will be held Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Mitchell’s Presbyterian Church in Culpeper, VA.
