Verna B. Ingram, 94, of Gordonsville, Virginia, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Dogwood Village Rehab Facility in Orange, Virginia. She was one of twelve children born on December 14, 1928 in Gordonsville, VA to the late Thomas and Mollie Brown.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, husband Theodore Ingram, three brothers George, Thomas (Guy) and Reginald Brown, four sisters Sybilla Brosier, Myrtle Crafton, Katherine Warren and Edith (Elaine) Waller and one devoted son in law Welford Courtney.
Verna graduated from Number Seven School in the Orange County School System in Orange, Virginia. At an early age she moved to the State of New Jersey. She was employed by the Wolpert Family of East Orange, New Jersey and was a devoted housekeeper for many years. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Newark New Jersey. After retiring she moved back to Virginia and was a member of Union Baptist Church in Gordonsville, Virginia. When she wasn’t spending time with family and friends she loved fishing, bowling, reading and watching sports in her spare time.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter Gwen Courtney, one granddaughter G. Maxine Courtney of Gordonsville, Virginia, one grandson Welford (Pete) Courtney of Palmyra, Virginia, one great-grandson Sean (Tabitha) Courtney of Charlottesville, Virginia, three great granddaughters Nicole (Bradley) Minter and Ashley Hopkins of Charlottesville, Virginia, Kentora Hopkins of Waynesboro, Virginia. Seven great-great grandchildren Robert, Jaedyn, Treyvon, Colby, Tyson, Zion, Mahki and Lincoln. One sister Evelyn Watson of Stafford, Virginia, three brothers Wayne (Jeff) Brown of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Gene (Susie) Brown of Petersburg, Virginia and William Brown of Kensetta, Iowa and a host of other relatives and friends.
Verna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother but most of all she was a friend to every life she touched. Her greatest joy was when the grandchildren was near they would pat her on the head. She was loved by many, her smile and laughter will always be a part of our lives. Her love and devotion for family and friends will be remembered by us all.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Woodberry Cemetery in Gordonsville, Virginia with the Reverend Robin Brown Haithco officiating.
