Susan Findlay Struble completed her mortal journey on this earth on October 23, 2024 in Gordonsville, Virginia and returned home to her Heavenly Father. Susan had a valiant 5-year fight with breast cancer and twice overcame this disease before it came back for the third time. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend to all who knew her.
Susan was born July 20, 1959 in Spokane, Washington. She was the 4th of 7th kids to Eugene and Lola Findlay. She grew up in the Air Force, living in numerous states along with Panama and Germany. She graduated high school in Virginia and was a senior working toward a psychology degree from BYU before getting married on Feb 12, 1993 to Mike Struble. She had 4 kids before her 5th anniversary. She worked tirelessly on behalf of her kids and became extensively involved with the special needs program at Wildomar Elementary School in California. She enjoyed spending time with her family with regular outings to the beach, Disneyland and Sea World. There were also road trips to Canada and the Northwest and a 7500 mile, 4-week church history trip from San Diego to upstate New York. She and the family made regular excursions to visit her parents, siblings and their families in Utah. She also enjoyed playing games with her kids, her mom and her sisters—favorites included the card games Rummy and 8-card golf and the board game Rummikub.
She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a devoted daughter of God. She served a mission from 1980-1982 in New Zealand for the church. Later she served as a Relief Society President but her most influential callings involved as a Young Women leader teaching hundred of young girls to love the gospel and to better themselves in life. She fulfilled one of her fondest dreams when she was able to serve as a temple worker at the Richmond Temple in 2023-2024. She was always on the lookout for those needing help. She frequently gave rides to people she would see walking alongside the road. She would give food and/or aid to those who looked hungry. She loved feeding the missionaries.
Susan had a lifelong love of music that she shared in and out of the church. She had a passion for teaching music and inspiring a love of all types of music in others, particularly the youth. She led a number of choirs, including Christmas choirs in Virginia and California that played to thousands during the holiday season. She played piano for nearly 60 years and her baby grand piano was something she enjoyed for nearly 25 years. She was an avid gardener and created a number of beautiful gardens at her homes. She had a keen eye for design and decorating and received numerous compliments on her home and requests for help from others in their homes.
Susan is survived by her husband Mike, her 4 children (Seth, Tyler, Laurissa and Scot) and 6 siblings (Kelvin, Gaylon, Debbie, LeeAnn, Brad and Melissa). She was greeted on her return home by her parents, her niece Sara, various friends—including a number of others who died from cancer--and numerous pets, including her 8-lb baby Scamp.
