Ruth Mae Smith went to be with the Lord on November 1st, 2021, at the age of 88. She was born November 5th, 1932, to the late Clifton Phillip Smith and the late Elease Talley Smith. She was one of six children. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Nelson Smith. She is survived by her three sons: Conrad (Pat), Ronald (Janice), and Donald (former spouse Meredith), sisters Marian Woolfrey and Bernice Carson, sisters-in-law Lorene Smith and Frances Smith, brother-in-law Kenneth Smith (Betty), five grandchildren Katie, Mary Elise, Zach, Chris, and Mikala, seven great grandchildren Kelee, Leah, Colton, Emmett, Trevor, Sophie, and Addy, many special nieces and nephews, in addition to many dear friends and neighbors, including Calvin and Joyce Bickley, Debbie Martin and devoted caretakers for one and a half years: Deloris Johnson, Tonya Wilson, Tracy Holiday, and Bernice Jackson.

Ruth was a Daughter, Mother, Wife, and Grandmother above all else. She was very devoted to her entire family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth was a dedicated member of Louisa Christian Church where she was involved in many committees and served as a Sunday school teacher through the years. She was an active member of the community with her late husband Nelson, serving in the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW.

Ruth was the epitome of what you envision a homemaker being, not only taking care of her family but her community as well. Everyone was family to Ruth, and she took pride in helping anyone she could. She was a one-of-a-kind woman that touched the lives of more people than she will ever know, not only with her kind spirit, but with her love of baking.

Visitation will be held at Preddy’s Funeral Home in Gordonsville on November 7th from 3-5 PM. The funeral will be held at 11 AM, on November 8th at the funeral home and conclude with graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery.
