Melvin E. Williams

Melvin E. Williams, “Sleepy Joe”, 68 of Charlottesville, Va. went home to be with the Lord, peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Monroe Health and Rehab., where he has resided for almost 5 years.
Melvin was born on February 18, 1957 in Washington, D. C, the 4th of 11 children and the first son of the late Mittie Graves Williams and Stark A. Williams, Jr.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin and C. Andrew Williams; sisters, Lois W. Brock and infant sister, Doris D. Williams; his maternal and paternal grandparents; a special friend, Anne Horne.
He is survived by his sisters, Deacon Caroly Harris (Aubrey) of Charlottesville, Va, Vivian Frye and Helen Early, both of Stanardsville, Va., Gwendolyn Williams of Charlottesville, Wanda Dillard (Greg) of Stanardsville; brother, Kenneth Williams of Ruckersville, Va.; four aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Melvin was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Stanardsville, Va., where he attended until his health declined. He was employed with Settle Tires for over 30 years as a mechanic and shuttle driver.
Thank you to Melvin’s care team at Monroe, Dr. Evans and Les Barker, N. P. and all the nurses on the 3rd floor.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 11:00 am at Shiloh Baptist Church, Stanardsville, Va. with Rev. Dr. Harrison L. Williams, presiding interment will be at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery.
Preddy Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of arrangements.
