On July 3, 2023, while surrounded by her loved ones, Ann Herndon passed peacefully from this life at home.
Ann was born January 11, 1933, to Charlie and Mary Carpenter in Greene County, VA, and grew up in Madison County. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, and Lawrence Carpenter.
Ann leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Janice Brown: her son, Jim Herndon, and his wife Betty, who faithfully took care of Ann for many years. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Tina Forren (Eddie), Charlie Herndon (LaDawn), and Marty Cornish: six great-grandchildren: Savannah Forren, Sydney Forren, Robert Cornish, Ethan Cornish, Lincoln Herndon, and Theodore Herndon. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including her niece, Kathy Carpenter, with whom she had a special bond. Ann also leaves behind her beloved and spoiled cat, Bobbie.
Ann worked for 24 years at Orange County Nursing Home (now Dogwood Village) where she made treasured friends. She was very proud of her family and especially her great-grandchildren, who brought her a lot of joy. Ann was “Grandma Ann” to many people, including forty-five foster children and numerous daycare children cared for by Betty. She was a member of the Christian church.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Preddy Funeral Home in Orange, with her dear friend Brother Clarence Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Graveside services will be private. Pallbearers will be Charlie Herndon, Eddie Forren, Clifford Brown, Mike Carpenter, Gary Carpenter, and Joe Carpenter.
The family would like to thank Legacy Hospice, especially Kriston Hahn, for their care. In lieu of flowers, Ann suggested donations be made to Legacy Hospice or St Jude Children’s Hospital.
