Kaye Harper Alley, 77, of Barboursville, Virginia, previously of Baxley, Georgia, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Albemarle Health and Rehabilitation Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Kaye was born on October 30, 1944 in Baxley, Georgia, to her parents, the late James M. Riddle and Carrie Harper Riddle Monk. After her mother’s early passing, Kaye spent her childhood with her grandparents, the late Pearlie and Mable Mayers Harper, and her uncles and aunts on their farm in Baxley, Georgia and spent summers with family in Fernandina Beach, Florida. In her adulthood, she built a life in Charlottesville and Barboursville, Virginia working in retail and later opening her home as a daycare provider.

Kaye is preceded in death by her husbands, R.L. Orvin and Robert W. Alley, and is survived by her devoted sons and their wives: Robert and Lynn, David and Simone, and Lee “Jimmy” and Marsha; and by the daughter she held in her heart, Amie Huddleston Richardson, her husband, Ryan, and their children Natalie and Cassidy whose visits she enjoyed.  Kaye loved her six grandchildren left to cherish her memory: Jessica Christensen, Joshua Alley, Katlyn Williamson, Lauren, Madison, and Bryson Alley; and treasured her five great-grandchildren, Brinley and Gemma Christensen and Daniel, Annabeth, and Henry Williamson. She is also survived by two brothers, James, Jr. (Sandra) Riddle and Terry Riddle, a lifelong friend, Faye Stein, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 11 am at Preddy Funeral Home, 59 Edgewood School Lane, Madison, Virginia and a family visitation will be held at 10 am, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.

Kaye’s “work” was more of a “calling” in providing daycare for children in and around her community. She loved all children and always had enough love for one more. She spent many years reciting ABCs and 123s, showing how to tie shoes, and teaching to color inside the lines. She also shared many laughs, wiped many tears, and kissed many boo-boos throughout the years. All the while, she planted seeds of love and acceptance in those little hearts and minds.
