John Walker Thompson III, 90, of Williamsburg, Virginia died on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. 

John is survived by his wife, Carole Reynolds Thompson and his four children, John W. Thompson IV of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, Karen D. Thompson of Hollister, California, Robin T. Walker of McLean, Virginia and Mark W. Thompson of Williamsburg, Virginia. He also had six grandchildren.

John was born in Orange, Virginia in 1931 and enrolled in the United States Air Force at age 19. He served in the military and the civil service until he retired in 1992 from the 480th Air Intelligence Group at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. He was also a POW of the Korean War I in Communist Red China for almost 32 months (1953-1955).

In retirement, he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and fishing in the Outer Banks on family holidays.

A closed family graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Graham Cemetery in Orange, Virginia.
