Irene Lucy Herring Wood, 89 of Free Union, Va. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 12, 2022 in Charlottesville. She was born on March 1, 1933 to the late Robert Lee Herring and Rosa Michael Herring. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Curtis Tilman Wood. 

She is survived by her three sons, Chester, David, Keith; one daughter, Debbie; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Claude Herring and wife Dorothy; and a niece, Renee Pace.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison, Va. with Pastor Steve Nethery officiating. Interment will be in Gentry United Methodist Church Cemetery in Boonesville, Va. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the funeral home in Madison.

David would like to say a special thanks to the nurses and staff of The Heritage Inn for their kindness and help during Mom’s time there. They treated her just like family. Thanks to her niece, Renee, for the special care she gave to mom.
