Haywood James Lawson, 95 of Ruckersville, Va. passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at The Harbor in Stanardsville. He was born on February 15, 1926 to the late Andrew Thomas Lawson and Berter Cornelius Turner Lawson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll, Campbell, Hiram, and Alton Lawson; and sister, Maxine Moon.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion for 73 years; and member of Stanardsville Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Zelia Marie Shifflett Lawson; two daughters, Kim Strong (Bill) of Cary, N. C. and Joy Woolard (Allen) of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Jenny Hofler (Chip) of Apex, N. C., Mitchell Strong (Jessica) of Durham, N. C., Kristen Woolard of Reston, Va., Hannah Woolard of Richmond, Va.; great-grandchildren, Callie, Ryder, and Scarlett Hofler of Apex. N. C.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison with Pastor Chuck Winner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Culpeper National Cemetery.
