J. Leonard “Len” Hartman of Keswick, VA, passed away on February 23, 2022. Len was born in Albemarle County on July 18, 1931, and was the son of Jacob Leonard “Len” Hartman and Pauline Hall Hartman. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Hoke Hartman, and his sister Barbara. He is survived by children Angela Loeser and Gloria Payne (and husband Dell) as well as five granddaughters, Amber, Jodi, Sharra, Allexa, and Tori, along with his cousins, Nancy Thomas of Madison County, Nelson Hall of Houston, Texas, John L. Hall of Augusta, Georgia, David B. Hartman of Hampton, Virginia, and Mike Hartman and Bill Hartman of Charlottesville, Virginia. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Roger Henry and wife Peggy, Bob Henry and wife Sandy, and Jimmy Henry and wife Tina. Len is also survived by his friends David Stancil, Scotty Bishop and was preceded in death by Tommy and Clarence Whetsel. Len managed the Melton Airport from 1960 to 1970 and worked for the C&O Railroad. Len also was a cattle farmer for many years. Len was a member of the Widow Sons’ Masonic Lodge 60 since May 6, 1959, ACCA Temple. Len was also a lifetime member of the Charlottesville Albemarle American Legion Post 74 and an at-large member of the Marine Corp. League. Len served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean conflict and had been an instrument-rated pilot since 1959. Len attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church which his family helped found.

There will be visitation at Preddy’s Funeral Home in Gordonsville, VA where the family will be taking visitors from 1 pm until 2 pm with funeral services to follow at 2 pm, on Monday, February 28, 2022.

A burial ceremony will take place at Quantico National Cemetery March 1, 2022, at 10:30 am, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Charlottesville/Albemarle or your favorite charity.
