Gladys Mae Tibbs, Sr. 86, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Charlottesville Health and Rehab Center. She was born on May 10, 1936 in Orange, Virginia and was the daughter of the late St Luke Johnson and Lucy Graves Foster Lindsay. She was also predeceased by her husband, Hunter Tibbs Sr; and a son, Chester Tibbs. She was a member and deaconess at the Mt Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by nine daughters, Linda Graves of Charlottesville, Brenda Graves-Branch and husband Darnell of Harrisonburg, Gladys Tibbs Jr. of Orange, Lucy Hertford and husband Christopher of Greensboro, Lyetta Cook of Greensboro, Daisy Humes and husband Keven of Orange, Elizabeth Towles of Charlottesville, Sally Watkins and husband John of Orange, and Bertha Snead of Orange; three sons, Albert Graves and wife Margaret of Orange, Roy Tibbs of Orange, and Hunter Tibbs Jr. and wife Angelia of Orange; twenty six grandchildren; forty nine great grandchildren; fifteen great great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; five brothers, Regionald Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Kevin Johnson, and Louis Davis; and two sisters, Lafern Brent, and Phyllis Johnson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt Calvary Baptist Church, Nasons, Virginia. Pastor Willie Crenshaw and Rev. Darrell Crump will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family.
